Hodgson & Hodgson was founded in 1890 by brothers William and Arthur Hodgson in Nottingham. By 1915 it was fully incorporated and has continued to flourish in private ownership, if not in family ownership, ever sine. Naturally, there have been many changes over the century of Hodgson and Hodgson’s existence. However, the basic concept which William and Arthur devised remains intact. In the early years, Hodgson & Hodgson suffered some difficulty in finding a suitable description of itself. Various terms were applied including Mill and Colliery Furnishers, Chemical Engineers and Fuel Technologists. This may at the time have reflected the uncertainty of describing its unique nature but it did not reflect the positive attraction of the business concept. This was, to provide essential off-the shelf products and services in support of locally based continuous manufacturing. Products included valves, gaskets, belting, cleaning fluid, lubricants, fuels and of course the early forms of insulation like hairfelt and silicate compounds. Services included same day supply, as well as supply and fit. As many inventors and entrepreneurs will testify, good ideas are not necessarily a cast iron basis for longevity. However, supported by flexibility and adaptation, they at least stand Hodgson have proved this point. Today, the Hodgson & Hodgson Group still provides essential products and services to manufacturing industry but the range of products is somewhat different and the services far broader. The range is based upon insulation materials, and services include for their application in both thermal and acoustic treatments covering consultancy, design, manufacture, supply and installation. Together, they represent an unparalleled portfolio which provides global manufacturing industry with a one-stop-shop for any thermal or acoustic advice, solution, products or components. The current breadth of Hodgson & Hodgson expertise owes much to its policy over the last ten year to consciously supplement existing skills and knowledge through acquisition. In 1992 the businesses of Albion Insulation Ltd and Nevill Thompson Insulation Ltd were acquired; the former adding materials experience and specialism in the supply of components to white goods manufacturers and the latter, a range of ancillary building services insulation products. In 1997 Alpha dBk and Ecomax Acoustics Ltd were added for their brand leading range of building acoustic products together with their industrial acoustic solutions manufacturing and installation capabilities. In 1998 EDC Acoustic Engineering Ltd and Acoustic Design Ltd were purchased. EDC strengthened skills in the provision of industrial acoustic solutions engineering, through their operation in the supply of packages for gas turbine manufactures. Acoustic Design Lit brought outstanding technical acoustic and vibration expertise through their operation as independent consultants. |

Barrier Mats Barrier Mats are manufactured from a durable, flexible polymeric material. They are designed to add mass to building elements, equipment or automotive components, acting as acoustic barriers to reduce noise transmission. Barrier Mats are available in rolls or sheets and can be die-cut to size and shape.
CoustiLam Coustilam comprises a range of composite products manufactured from with a lead or polymeric barrier. Products are available with various surface finishes to suit a wide range of applications. Each product is designed for use in applications where there is a requirement for both sound insulation and sound absorption. CoustiLam is available in sheets and can be die-cut to size shape.
CoustiBoard CoustiBoard is a lightweight, self-supporting panel, manufactured from two layers of WBP marine grade plywood, with a 5mm cork-elastomer damping core and a Gaboon veneer surface finish. Virtually any wood veneer is available to co-ordinate with interior design features. Metal, melamine or phenolic resin glass laminate facings can be incorporated to improve fire ratings.
DuctLag DuctLag Acoustic Blankets comprise a range of products manufactured from various combinations of glass fibre, melamine foam, polyester blanket, lead or polymeric barriers. The resulting composite panels are faced one side with a reinforced Class ’O’ aluminium foil.
Acoustic HeatShields M949 Acoustic HeatShields are manufactured from long strand glass fibre needlemat, faced one side with reinforced aluminium foil with self-adhesive backing on the reverse. M1019 Acoustic HeatShields incoporate an additional polymeric barrier core to further improve sound transmission performance. They are designed to provide both thermal and acoustic insulation in areas exposed to extreme variations of temperature and high levels of noise emission from metal surfaces. Acoustic HeatShields are available in sheets or can be die-cut to size and shape. |
FiberForm Fiberform is manufactured from a specially formulated mix of high and low melt, non-irritating, water repellent polyester fibers. It is designed for use in thermal and acoustic insulation applications. Fiberform can be supplied in sheets, die-cut to size and shape or moulded into three dimensional shapes. It can be faced one side with a range of surface finishes, as detailed overleaf.
AbFoam AbFoam is an open cell polyurethane foam for general purpose acoustic foam used in the automotive industry and for compressors, generators fans etc.
Thermos Acoustic Ceiling Tile Pads Thermos acoustic ceiling tile pads have been developed in close liaison with leading metal ceiling tile manufacturers. They comprise a range of mineral fibre products suitable for use in perforated metal suspended ceiling systems. Meet most demanding requirements for thermal, acoustic and fire performance.
Suspended Absorbers Manufactured from either the open cell melamine foam or a medium density glass fibre faced in glass cloth. Suspended Absorbers are hung vertically from the underside of ceilings and are designed to reduce reverberation noise in large open plan environments.
MelaTiles MelaTile comprise a range of tiles desgined for adhering onto exisiting flat ceiling and walls. They are manufactured from open cell melamine foam. |
Damping Sheet Bitumen Based Designed to improve sound insulation of a product and reduce acoustic and vibrational induced noise from sheet metal. Bitumen based damping sheets are manufactured from bitumen, synthetic rubber, and minerals to create a flexible, visco-elastic material.
Damping Sheet PVA Based The PVA based damping sheet is designed for use where high levels of vibration induce noise from sheet metal. The damping sheet will help to reduce noise radiating from the metal. The PVA sheet is manufactured from polyvinyl acetate, creating a lightweight, flexible, visco-elastic polymer material.
Vibration Damping Compound The material is designed to damp resonant vibrations of the substrate that it is applied to. It is manufactured from a water based co-polymer emulsion, with mineral fillers in a polymeric binder. The compound is easy to apply and can be sprayed onto smooth and complex surfaces. |
